Janis Dellarte (Maria Ana Duarte Silva) was born in Lisbon in 1989, where she lived until she moved to Madrid at the age of seven. She attended the Bellas-Artes course at the Universidad Francisco de Victoria in 2007 and the Chelsea College of Arts in 2008, where she received a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design. She has a degree in Textiles and Surface Design from Buckinghamshire New University, completed a course in Experimental Jewellery at Central Saint Martins and became a Master in Knitted Textiles at the Royal College of Art. She has traveled through Portugal, Nepal, India, Peru, Mexico and Brazil in search of learning traditional textile production techniques from these places that are on the verge of extinction. In 2014 she returned to Portugal, where she takes part in activist initiatives, mainly related to ecology, develops various projects at national and international level and collaborates with designers, musicians, dancers and performers. She shows her work regularly and has exhibited in the United Kingdom, Portugal, Romania, the United States of America, Mexico, Brazil and Spain.
