Maria Silva
Galeria Belard presents "Maria Silva," a solo exhibition by Portuguese multidisciplinary artist Janis Dellarte that marks a significant departure from her previous large-scale knitted sculptures. Through this new body of work, Dellarte integrates her textile expertise into a revived drawing practice, engaging in a critical dialogue between historical craft and mechanical processes, bridging past and future in a deeply personal yet politically charged body of work.
Dellarte's process is both cyclical and labor-intensive. She works with inherited fabrics, often marked by use and time, embroidering and sewing on vintage textiles before photocopying these interventions to create new surfaces to draw on where textile imagery fragments and multiplies. She then returns to sewing, layering stitches over printed remnants and collaged objects, oscillating between analog and mechanical, found and generated, created and reproduced.
